Development
After studying architecture at the TU Braunschweig, IUAV Venice and art at the HBK Braunschweig, she worked in the architectural offices of Massimiliano Fuksas and William Alsop. Since 1997, together with Martin Cors, she is heading the IMKEWOELK office, which combines architecture and art, planning practice and research. In 2003 she received a scholarship to the German Academy Villa Massimo in Rome. She has taught and researched at the Metropolitan University of London, TU Berlin, Duksung Women’s University Seoul, Università Roma Tre and the Danish Arts Foundation. In 2010 she completed her doctorate at the TU Berlin under Finn Geipel and Andres Lepik with a thesis on the Neue Nationalgalerie Berlin by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. In 2016 she was appointed to the Art Advisory Committee by the Senate Department for Culture and Europe in Berlin. In 2018 she completed the online study program ‘The Architectural Imagination’ at the Harvard Graduate School of Design with K. Michael Hays . Imke Woelk received the chair of the jury for the national Czech Architecture Prize in 2019. Her video ‘After All – The Culture of Nature’ was presented at the Art Film Festival in Cannes AFIFF 2019 and nominated for the award. In 2020, she was appointed to the Deutscher Werkbund.
Martin Cors (Dipl. Ing.)
Production
Studied architecture and urban planning at the technical universities in Vienna and Braunschweig and worked as an architect with Christoph Mäckler in Frankfurt and Berlin. Here he was responsible for numerous studies and drafts of high-rise buildings like the Frankfurt “Opernturm” (Opera Tower) or the Berlin “Zoofenster” (Waldorf-Astoria). In 2006, he was a cofounder of the Berlin architectural practice Imke Woelk und Partner. He was an instructor in design and urban planning at Dortmund University in 1998–2004. Between 2005 and 2013, he was director of the Dortmunder Institut für Stadtbaukunst. Numerous research projects on topics such as sustainable urban development, energy efficient construction, and the preservation of historic monuments. Since 2014, Cors has produced expert opinions and studies on modular building in wood, metal, and concrete.
Heiko Walth (Dipl. Ing.)
Coordination
Studied architecture at the Technische Universität Berlin, worked at Bruno Fioretti Marquez Architekten in Berlin, and as project director for LIN Architekten und Urbanisten in Berlin and Paris. In 2006–07, he directed a research group on the typologies of historical industrial buildings in the specialist field of Gebäudekunde (building typology) at the Technischen Universität Berlin. From 2009 until 2011, he was active in the area of “architectural branding” for M&C Saatchi in Sydney. He has worked with Imke Woelk und Partner since 2011.
