Berlin – Common Archipelagos, 2120
Vision of the city as natural metropolis. Coexistence of urbanity and landscape, technology and nature
Equality of animals, pedestrians and inter-mobility users. Replacement of the familiar compositional urban structure by adaptable large-scale structures. Linkage of the hybrid building by infrastructure networks. Not ‘back to nature’ but forward with to a ‘new nature’.

DENSITY: Determination of a hypothetical minimum volume for the entire housing space of the city
Current population: 3,5 Mio
Current built-up area: 37.000 ha
Minimum housing space per person by law: 12 m2
Minimum volume per person: 12 m2 + 4 m2 (circulation / construction) x 3m (height) = 48 m3
Minimum volume in total for the Berlin housing space: 48 m3 x 3,5 Mio = 168 Mio m3
Necessary area to spread the minimum volume building of LxWxH = 500 x 25 x 50 m: 665 ha
