Status of cultural constructs, Part 1

CONVERSION is the first in a trilogy of videos and an ongoing research by Imke Woelk on the topic of anonymity. It was screened at the 2016 ‘Day of Architecture’ curated by Architektenkammer Berlin.

The video presents the persistent anonymity of interior spaces of contemporary apartments. White painted walls and doors, wooden floors and neutral built-in furniture are fulfilling the standardised needs of the clients. Regardless of the user’s ideology and his status, housing backgrounds are queried, but everything else – the personality of the builders, the still wrapped material and even the construction rubble – offer more focus than the apartment itself.
